NBA Studs and Duds 1/13/09
Studs:
Raymond Felton, Charlotte Bobcats
Felton led the Bobcats in scoring tonight with 23 points, but more importantly he hit a game-winning shot with .7 seconds left to bury the Detroit Pistons. He also had an all-around solid game as he grabbed 6 rebounds and had 9 assists with only one turnover. [boxscore]
Lebron James, Cleveland Cavaliers
James notched his second triple-double of the season with an impressive 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. James also couldn't be stopped in the third quarter as he poured in 17 points in that period alone. The Cavs went on to beat the Grizzlies 102-87.[boxscore]
Shaquille O'Neal, Phoenix Suns
O'Neal was the Suns' stabilizing force in a tough win over the Hawks tonight. He controlled the paint, scoring 26 points, grabbing 10 boards and swatting away 3 shots. Let's also not forget that he hit 6 of 11 free throws - fiiiyaaaaa! Did you know that O'Neal is shooting a career high percentage from the charity stripe at 62.8%? I'm not sure whether we should be happy or sad about that. [boxscore]
Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat
I'm getting tired of how routine these ridiculous DWade performances are. Wade was his usual spectacular self tonight as he was doing a little bit of everything. He dropped 33 points, 8 assists and 3 boards. Wade was also quite active on the defensive end as he notched 3 blocks and 3 steals, and he led the Heat to a tight 99-96 win over the Timberwolves. [boxscore]
Duds:
Rudy Gay, Memphis Grizzlies
Gay had a tough time performing tonight against Lebron James, and struggled to get in any sort of a groove tonight. Gay shot 5 of 18 from the field, struggled with foul trouble, and only had 10 points. The Grizzlies need more than that from Gay if they hope to beat a team like the Cavs. [boxscore]
J.R. Smith, Denver Nuggets
While the Nuggets did pull out a win tonight (with some great help from the zebras), J.R. Smith did not help the team make up for Carmelo Anthony's absense. Smith struggled with his shot all night, only hitting on 1 of 14 attempts. To his credit, he did have 5 boards and 7 assists - but as a starter, the Nuggets need more than 2 points out of Smith.
