Nightly Noise: Rudy Gay has a career night

by Stu Holdren on December 13, 2009

Tonight’s Nightly Noise clip could have been any number of plays from Rudy Gay, who dropped in a career high 41 points in tonight’s all-out dismantling of the Miami Heat. As I watched this game, I was repeatedly in awe of Gay’s uncanny highlight-reel dunks.

From the @NBAnoise Twitter feed:

  • I know what my Nightly Noise clip is going to be already. The fastbreak nastiness that Rudy Gay threw down a bit ago…
  • Well…maybe my Nightly Noise will just be a Rudy Gay montage… my goodness that was quite an oop!
  • These Rudy Gay plays are getting increasingly ridiculous. The Grizz are doing a fantastic job at throwing the outlet passes.
  • New career high for Rudy Gay with 37 pts…with 10:30 still left in the game. Yikes.

As you can see, I was a little bit giddy with Gay’s performance tonight. I assure you, this has nothing to do with the fact that he’s on my fantasy team ;) . Above is his first draw-dropping dunk of the night, a beautiful two-hand double-clutch reverse slam. As the commentator points out, it was the outlet pass of Hasheem Thabeet that got this play going. He and Marc Gasol did a fantastic job of starting the break all night, which certainly contributed to the drubbing they gave to Miami. Check out some of Gay’s other Nightly Noise-worthy highlights here.
