I came across this gem of a “news piece” and had to share this with the NBA Noise faithful. Sean Williams of the New Jersey Nets was arrested at Boston College last weekend for allegedly violating a no-trespassing order. Supposedly, Boston College police banned Williams from being on
campus after an officer detected the odor of marijuana in a vehicle
near him. While this sounds overly-sensitive and a violation of basic rights, the BC police had arrested Williams back in 2005 for marijuana possession, so their suspicions were likely warranted. Here’s where it gets interesting.
From ESPN:
“The Globe reported that according to BC police,
Williams — instead of signing his name on a fingerprint card and a
trespassing warning — wrote an expletive on each document…Williams posted $40 bail but failed to show for arraignment Tuesday. A judge rescheduled the arraignment for March 5.”
This is pure gold for those of us who are intrigued by the NBA culture and off-court antics that some players get themselves into. I mean, really, you are going to write an “expletive” on an official police document instead of your name? Really. I’m dying to know which expletive he chose, any guesses? I also found it funny that his bail was a grand total of $40. Even for a quasi-NBA player like Williams, he probably has at least $40 in his left tube sock.
After a somewhat promising rookie season, Williams has only appeared in 20 games for the Nets and has seen limited action in those appearances. I wouldn’t be surprised if his limited on-court production and questionable character lead him to be off of any NBA roster in the near future.
